Zach Bryan Responds to ICE Song Backlash | 'I Love This Country' (2025)

Zach Bryan's 'Bad News' Song Sparks Debate Over ICE Lyrics

Country music star Zach Bryan has ignited a heated debate with his upcoming song, 'Bad News,' which includes lyrics criticizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, a former U.S. Navy member, expressed his frustration over the polarized reactions to the song, which he shared a snippet of online.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Bryan emphasized his love for his country and his intention to bridge the divide. He stated, 'I served this country, I love this country, and the song is about unity amidst our divided society. I'm not a politician, just a 29-year-old man navigating life's complexities.'

The song's lyrics, such as 'I heard the cops came, cocky m-----f------, ain't they,' and 'ICE is gonna come bust down your door,' have sparked strong reactions. As the controversy surrounding ICE raids intensifies, federal officials highlight the challenges ICE agents face in a hostile environment, implementing President Trump's deportation policies.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials have criticized the song, with Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin suggesting Bryan stick to his hit single, 'Pink Skies.' DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, in a media briefing, expressed her disapproval, stating, 'Zach, I didn't listen to your music. That makes me happy. I never gave you a penny.' She further emphasized the song's disrespect towards law enforcement and the country's values.

The DHS also used Bryan's previous song, 'Revival,' in a promotional video featuring ICE agents, raising questions about the song's intended use. Bryan defended his creation, explaining that 'Bad News' was written months ago and shared a snippet to illustrate the song's broader context.

Bryan concluded his Instagram post, 'This song is about my deep love for this country and its people. When you hear the full song, you'll understand the message of unity. Those using it as a weapon only highlight our divisions. We must find a way back to unity.'
