And this is the part most people miss: the consequences of the government shutdown are far-reaching. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, over 42 million people rely on SNAP benefits monthly, and these benefits lapsed on November 1st for the first time in the program's history.
Meyers concluded by highlighting the irony: "Working families are struggling, and yet the president is focused on renovating his bathroom and building a ballroom."
